The 2013-2014 swim season has officially begun! On Saturday, October 5, the Mustangs competed in the Jesuit Ranger Relays. The Ranger Relays Meet was unconventional in its structure. Sixteen of the best teams from the area competed in relay only events – there were no individual swims. The relay events were followed by an exciting Shootout round.
Points were assigned to each team based on their relay finishes. Once the relays were completed, the eight top-scoring teams were assigned into the final Championship Round and the other eight were assigned to the Consolation Round.
During these rounds, all eight teams began with a male swimmer competing in a 50 free. The team with the slowest time was eliminated. The next heat was a 50 free swum by female swimmers representing the remaining seven teams. The competition continued in this manner - alternating male/female, eliminating the slowest team - until only one team remained.
JJP competed hard against some fierce competitors, including the 2013 Texas State Champions. The Mustangs ended up being narrowly out-touched for 2nd place in the Consolation Round of the Shootout.
What a great way to start the season and get the team working together! We’re looking forward to a terrific season! The Mustangs' first head-to-head competition will be 10/10 against Tyler Lee High School. Go Mustangs!
